The funeral service took place at Ipswich Crematorium for Josephine Ann Haddock, always known as Josie, wife of George Haddock, of Victoria Hill, Eye, who died at the age of 78.
Fr Chris Davidson, who officiated, described Josie as “a very special lady” who had touched the hearts of many people.
Brought up in Wickham Skeith with her two younger sisters, Wendy and Jenny, and brother Malcolm, now deceased, Josie was a pupil at the former Eye Grammar School. Her first job was at Stowmarket Iron Foundry entailing a cycle ride there and back each day. Her main employment was at the Maternity Unit of Hartismere Hospital where she was highly regarded for 40 years until her retirement. She and her husband George had been married for almost 60 years. A prolific knitter, Josie made a significant contribution to the Eye Country Market where she sold babies’ and children’s hand made garments. She also enjoyed bingo and regularly supported and helped at local venues. The family have expressed their thanks to everyone for their kindness and help during Josie’s illness especially in the final days. A poem “Miss Me but Let Me Go” was read by Romaine Elsden. The congregation included relatives, neighbours, friends, former nursing colleagues and representatives of local organisations. Donations are being given to Cancer Research UK.
