Norfolk Fire and Rescue’s hydrant team to set off from Diss on 90-mile charity hike

A 10-strong fire service team have set themselves the challenge of walking the length of Norfolk in under 24 hours to raise money for charity.

The Hydrant Hike will see staff members from Norfolk Fire and Rescue Service set off from Diss on May 17 on a 60-mile journey to Wells-next-the-Sea on the north Norfolk coast.

The challenge is to raise money for the Fire Fighters Charity, a national organisation that provides clinical care and wellbeing support to members of the UK’s fire services and their families.

On the day, the team will set off from the Cappadocia Restaurant, in Stuston Road, at noon and walk through the night on the route, passing through Wymondham, Dereham and Fakenham to the finish line at Wells RNLI Lifeboat Station.

Sam Minister-Wilson, a senior technician from the team, said: “Any Norfolk resident will tell you that we are lucky to live in such a scenic county.

“So we thought why not set ourselves the challenge of walking along it, and raise some money at the same time.

“The distance we will be walking will be more than two marathons, so it’s going to be a real test on all of our bodies.

“But it will be huge motivation to know that we are doing it for the charity, which does fantastic work for firefighters and their families and are a cause close to all of our hearts.”
