More than 300 visitors flocked to TW Gaze for the annual poultry auction held in December.
262 birds were up for grabs, and competition was fierce to see who could bag that prize centrepiece for their Christmas dinner.
We always hold the auction as near as possible to Christmas so that all our birds are fresh
Auctioneer and rural director Edward Baskerville took up the gavel and in the end only two lots were left unsold.
This year’s guest judges were David Thacker and Matthew Ward of Crown Chicken Ltd, based in Weybread and Kenninghall. They selected John Farrow of Priory Farm, Rickinghall, and his 16lb rough plucked blonde as the winner of this years’ Supreme and Champion turkey rosette.
Meanwhile, the 14lb 8oz Champion Goose, described as “the star of the show”, from Mrs Hancy at Whitehouse Farm, Banham was acquired for an impressive £86.
Rural chartered surveyor Jenna Goodall Browne puts the event’s success down to its reputation for high-quality, local produce.
“People sometimes come from as far as Brighton,” she said. “We always hold the auction as near as possible to Christmas so that all our birds are fresh.”
