Mobile unit to boost police profile

A new mobile police station is set to become a familiar sight in mid Suffolk.

The mobile operating base, funded by the Mid Suffolk Local Strategic Partnership, aims to increase public access to services by providing a more visible police presence in rural and urban communities.

Mid Suffolk District Commander, Chief Inspector Neal Atwell, said: "Officers from the Safer Neighbourhood Teams will be primarily using the mobile police station, although we will be able to use it for major incidents where required.

"It will be visiting up to six locations a day across Mid Suffolk, or if we're attending bigger events like the Stowmarket Carnival or Eye Show, we may stay in one place all day."

The station is equipped with an area where small meetings and interviews can be held.

Funding is being sought to equip the station with electronic displays which show the speed of passing vehicles.
