A version of a plan to link Victoria Road to Chapel Street - first raised around 40 years ago to ease traffic congestion in Diss - has surfaced.
At the time Chapel Street was still open to two-way traffic and the suggestion to develop The Causeway foot and cycle path into a road link was never pursued.
However, a Causeway link to the Chapel Street car park has been suggested by Diss builder and former mayor Harold Rackham, owner of the former Victoria Road infants’ school. The Causeway skirts the school site and complaints are regularly raised about the deteriorating state of the Victorian building.
Mr Rackham outlined plans for creating a car park link to Diss Town Council planning committee, which gave its backing in principle, said town clerk Deborah Sarson.
Ms Sarson said a route from Victoria Road to a town centre car park could be of particular assistance to visitors unfamiliar with the town.
However, the proposal would have to be the subject of a full planning application,
Mr Rackham did not respond to Diss Express attempts this week to discuss his plans for the school.
