READER LETTER: ‘Mervyn Lambert had ample opportunity to buy Bressingham Chequers’

The Bressingham Chequers Inn, which is for sale. ENGANL00120130814110942

How arrogant of Mervyn Lambert to assume that Mr and Mrs Knox-Johnston would be interested in an offer to buy the Chequers Inn (Let me buy pub, Diss Express, August 22) so recently after they had purchased it.

Surely if Mr Lambert is so keen to see the building retained as a public house he ought to have been in negotiation with the former owners in the not inconsiderable time it was on the open market or in the very least attended the public auction where the eventual disposal took place and bought it there

This looks like a publicity stunt by a man who likes to see his name in print and then drop out of the equation some time later, I seem to recall other publicity gaining incidents that in the event came to nothing.

Please leave Mr and Mrs Knox-Johnston to their planning application and commend them for their foresight in trying to bring back in to use a prominent building that had lain unused for some time
