Your chance to help tackle crime by becoming a special constable with Suffolk Police

Could you be a special constable, doing jobs ranging from going on foot and vehicle patrols to policing summer events?

Suffolk Police special constables are volunteers who give up a few hours each month to support regular police officers across the county in the fight against crime.

You can find out more about becoming one at an information evening being held at the Hotel Victoria in Lowestoft from 7.30pm on Monday.

Special constables carry out a wide range of duties, from dealing with crime and disorder, to helping on drugs warrants, and the job can be both varied and rewarding.

Volunteers come from a wide variety of backgrounds and age groups, with some joining to get experience before applying to become a regular officer, and others viewing it as a way to do something to help their local community.

Monday’s information evening gives you the chance to find out what being a special constable is all about.

You will be able to see a presentation, including videos, about what the job entails and how you can join.

You will also be able to talk to some of those who already do the job, and ask any questions you would like answered.

Anyone aged 18 or over, in good health and of good character can apply.

You do not have to be super-fit or have any special qualifications, and the hours are flexible - days, evenings or weekends, whenever suits you best.

If you are unable to make it on Monday evening but would still like to find out more, please take a look at the Suffolk Constabulary website at www.suffolk.police.uk, or call Mick Mann on 01473 613638 or email him at mick.mann@suffolk.pnn.police.uk .
