There is a new man at the helm of Breckland Council.
Michael Wassell was elected leader of the district authority at a special meeting the full council held at Elizabeth House, Dereham. He replaces William Nunn.
Cllr Wassell has chosen Lynda Turner to be his deputy.
Speaking after the meeting, Cllr Wassell said: “I am delighted and honoured to be elected as the new leader.
“I must thank all of my fellow members for supporting me, and in particular I am grateful for all of the support and assistance that I have received from the previous leader William Nunn, and must give him great credit for all of his achievements in his eight years as leader.”
He added: “We face unprecedented financial challenges in the next few years. I want to reassure the residents of Breckland that we will continue to provide value for money whilst continuing to deliver quality frontline services. We will maximise the opportunities which are presented to us and continue to improve the councils commercial instincts and ensure we get the most from our assets. “
Cllr Wassell was previously deputy leader. Cllr Nunn, meanwhile, has been a councillor for 19 years, and will continue as district representative for West Guiltcross.
