Water woe hits scores of north Suffolk homes

Hundreds of people and homes in north Suffolk were either left without running water or endured low water-pressure over the weekend.

The incident affected properties in Eye, Stradbroke and Hoxne, through villages across to Laxfield and Metfield, and other properties down to Brundish and Worlingworth.

It was caused by a burst water main on Saturday morning. Essex and Suffolk Water had fixed the problem by the afternoon.

A spokesman for the water supplier apologised for any inconvenience caused.

He said: “An eight-inch water main leading from our Syleham treatment works burst, causing a number of properties to go with out water from around 8am in the morning up until the early afternoon.

“Our crew arrived on site promptly, and started a repair quickly.”

It is not yet known what caused the water to go off, or the pressure to slow down.

An investigation is being carried out into what caused the fault.

The water supplier received 150 calls regarding the matter in all.

It is unknown how many people and homes were affected altogether, though.
