A volunteer who spent nearly two decades running a local mother and toddler group has retired.
Sharon Loome took over the task of leading the Edward Bear Club at St. Mary’s Church in Diss when the original members struggled to continue. Since then, she has run the Tuesday morning sessions for 18 years.
Mrs Loome, who runs Mere Moments cafe in Mere Street, said: “It is with much regret that I am unfortunately having to give up. My work keeps me very busy and as my only day off is Tuesday I feel that it is time to call it a day.”
There were fears that the group - which was once described by an Ofsted inspector as the best mother and toddler group they had seen - could close down if a replacement for Mrs Loome could not be found. However, a new leader has been confirmed, along with a band of helpers who will offer support on a rota basis, so that the club can re-open in September.
