Village shock at death of Horham man, 34, while at work

The inquest into the death of a 34-year-old north Suffolk man who died after an industrial incident in a Norfolk village has been opened and adjourned.

Kevin Alderton of Redlingfield Road in Horham died last Friday afternoon when he was working as a mechanic at a business premises in Seething.

A resident of Horham, who did not wish to be named, paid tribute to Mr Alderton.

He said: “He was very well-known in the village.

“We are all very stunned by this, and obviously shocked.

“ We are a close-knit community.”

The inquest hearing was told that Mr Alderton became trapped between the rear wheel and the chassis of an agricultural vehicle upon which he was working.

He was declared dead at the scene.

A post mortem examination has been carried out by Dr Ben Swift who said the cause of death was traumatic asphyxia as a result of compressive chest injuries.

The inquest was opened and adjourned by Norfolk Coroner William Armstrong at the Coroner’s Court in Norwich on Wednesday morning.

It was adjourned pending the outcome of investigations being carried out by the Health

and Safety Executive and Norfolk Police.
