The spirit of the start of the longest running strike in history, 100 years ago, was recreated in Burston on Tuesday.
A celebration of the Burston Strike involved both Burston and Tivetshall primary schools, local people, Strike School supporters and a local theatre company.

In 1914 Burston’s Tom and Annie Higdon, who taught at the village school, were sacked, sparking a strike which lasted until Tom’s death in 1939.
A march around the village ‘candlestick’ route recreated the actions of the outraged pupils, back on April 1, 1914. Pupils from the primary schools dressed in clothes of the time and even posed for the same photo taken of protesting pupils back in 1914.
