A man arrested on suspicion of arson following a fire at a home in Mendlesham Green, in the early hours of Sunday morning has been released on police bail.

Police were contacted by the fire service around 12.50am yesterday, to reports that the property was on fire but that no one appeared to have been inside.

Officers attended and began enquiries, and at around 3.30am the 54-year-old man, from the Mendlesham area, was arrested in connection with the blaze.

He was taken into custody at Bury St Edmunds Police Investigation Centre and interviewed by officers.

Fire crews from Needham Market and Stowmarket attended the fire, on the ground floor of the property, having been alerted at about 12.20am.

It was bought under control by 1.15am.
