Town set to mourn former Mayor and estate agent
Flags will be lowered to half-mast above Eye for the funeral of one of the town’s most respected citizens.
He was former mayor, town councillor and estate agent John Lucus who died at his Yaxley home on January 19 after a short illness.
His funeral will be held at Ss Peter and St Paul in Eye at 2pm on Wednesday, February 13, and the flag above Eye Town Hall will be lowered for two days ahead of this.
He leaves a widow, Lindsay, daughters Heidi and Wendy, grandchildren Charlie and Willow and sons-in-law Dominic and Ben.
Mr Lucas gave up much of his time to support the community and in particular Hartismere School, where he had been a governor. He served on the town council between 1976 and 1988 and was honoured to serve as mayor in 1980/81.
“He loved Eye,” daughter Wendy told the Express. “He would do anything for anyone.”,
The family is hoping as many people as possible will be able to attend the funeral service and everyone is invited afterwards to a reception to be held at Eye Community Centre.
He was prominent in business life and formed the estate agency Patridge & Lucas in 1975, which he ran until he retired in 2008. Mr Lucas was respected by others. “I was so sad to hear of his death,” said Simon Harrison of Harrison Edge.
