A charity runner hoping to complete four marathons across Europe faces a fitness battle ahead of the Paris Marathon on Sunday.

Tom Bobbins, owner of Heywood Sports and Leisure Club in Diss, is hoping to raise more than £8,000 for Cancer Research UK and East Anglia’s Children’s Hospices.

But after completing a wet Rome Marathon in three hours and 23 minutes on March 23, the Long Stratton resident has picked up an achilles injury.

“I have got a bit of an achilles problem,” he explained. “I have got a few days left to keep getting the pain killers in. We will see how I get on.”

He said that he went for a run earlier this week but had to come to a stop just 200 metres in.

“I would like to do it (Paris Marathon) in three-and-a-half hours, but I don’t know how it is going to go.”

Mr Bobbins, who has raised more than £4,000 so far and is due to travel on the Eurostar to France tomorrow, added: “The fundraising has been going well. We are well over the £4,000 mark so I am well chuffed with that - but we are always looking for more!“

Mr Bobbins is set to take to the start line of the London Marathon on April 13, before completing his charity challenge in Madrid on April 27.

He can be sponsored online at uk.virginmoneygiving.com/thomasbobbins or in person at the club in Walcot Road.
