The ethos behind the Diss on View 2013 business fair, taking place at The Park Hotel, Diss, on Friday, September 20, is centred on supporting the local business sector and in turn investing in the local community.
This was a major driver in Saffron Housing Trust Ltd’s enthusiasm to become involved with the annual event as chief sponsor.
Saffron Housing Trust today has more than 5,000 residential properties throughout East Anglia, having taken over 4,300 properties from South Norfolk Council in 2004. It is a major social housing provider in the area with hundreds of tenants, and also a developer building affordable homes for rent or part purchase in local rural communities - and it is also involved in home ownership schemes for those with long-term disabilities.
Adam Ronaldson, chief executive at Saffron, said: “Diss is a community that Saffron remains delighted to work with. In addition to the large number of homes that we have in the area, we are working with Diss High School on our innovative apprenticeship programme. This year we have ten young people who will be joining our apprenticeship scheme and working with local businesses in Diss and the surrounding area.”
Stuart Tinkler, assistant HR director, who has been promoting and co-ordinating the new scheme, said it was hoped local businesses would benefit from the pilot project as well as the young people who are learning new skills. “The aim of the scheme is give experience to, and share knowledge with, members of the local community. This will hopefully allow businesses to expand, the local economy to benefit and perhaps most importantly give the young people a better chance of future employment,” he said.
Diss on View 2013 opens to the public with free entry from 1.30pm. In addition to the business fair, a number of other activities will run throughout the day. The Diss Express is once again sponsor and media partner, along with Saffron, Andrew Thompson & Associates, Blackwell Print, Jackamans Solicitors and Durrants Estate Agents.
