Suffolk pilot library plan in turmoil
A GROUP looking to take on one of Suffolk County Council’s pilot-scheme libraries claims the authority is making life needlessly difficult.
The county council has offered to transfer The Old Courthouse - Stradbroke Library’s repair and new heating system-needing current home - to the parish council in time for the pilot’s April deadline.
Yet Stradbroke’s working group says a lack of data to go with the offer is stopping the pilot - with Eye and Debenham’s libraries - proceeding.
Working group member James Hargrave, said: “It would be a real shame if after all the hard work the project fails due to minor issues that cannot be resolved.
“We have the interest and enthusiasm, and now need the county council to do its bit.”
Some parish councillors are now questioning if Stradbroke should continue to take part in the pilot.
Brian Prettyman, the county council’s estate manager, said: “We will be sending some information to the group within the next fortnight.”
Guy McGregor, county councillor for Stradbroke, added: “I have arranged a meeting with the relevant department, and am committed to getting Stradbroke what it is they need within the next two weeks.”
