A special presentation took place at Wortham Post Office on Monday to Wortham resident Rachel Garnham who is retiring after 25 years as Post Office counter assistant.

Family, residents and friends were there to say goodbye to her, and to see her presented with gifts and cards from the residents by Janice Lloyd, the present post mistress.

Mrs Garnham (pictured standing, fifth from left) was trained by the then post master, Ben Vaux in 1989, who taught her everything she had to know.

She she helped many to bridge the gap between pension books and direct bank payments and other difficulties. Janice paid her own tribute to Rachel, thanking her for all she has done and said she has seen lots of changes, including the introduction of being computerised.

The new lady assistant is Lisa Long from Wortham, and she is looking forward to meeting and getting to know everyone.
