A south Norfolk couple who last year made it their New Year’s resolution to lose weight have now shed 12 stone between them.

David Runicles, 44, and his fiancee Claire Radford, 38, started 2013 as a happier, healthier couple after losing seven-and-a-half and four-and-a-half stone respectively.

The couple from Alburgh joined their local Weight Watchers group in Harleston last January, and lost the weight by sticking to a pro-points plan, which allows you to eat what you like, when you like, until you reach your daily points total.

Ms Radford at five foot two inches, weighed more than 14 stone, and at a size 22 struggled to find women’s motorbike leathers to fit when she passed her motorcycle test.

She said: “We both got to the stage where we had ballooned so much we needed to do something about it. We were both getting ill from it.

“I had done Weight Watchers a couple of times before but I had always given up. But since I’ve been with David we’ve both done really well.”

Mr Runicles had also tried various diets in the past, but without support had found it difficult to achieve any sort of permanent weight loss.

He said: “Not only have I lost weight but I have gained confidence and had more energy than I have had in years.

“I have now lost over 100lbs and best of all the weight is still coming off.”

Ms Radford’s next goal is to lose 5lbs before their wedding day in September.

She added: “My confidence has grown and I feel a lot happier.

“It’s so nice to be able to go into a shop and try on a pair of boots without worrying whether you can do them up around your leg.”
