Seven fire crews called to battle thatched house fire near Harleston
A thatched house fire in south Norfolk saw seven fire crews called out to tackle the “well alight” blaze.
The crews spent nearly five hours tackling the blaze late on Friday and in the early hours of Saturday morning.
It occurred in Mill Road, All Saints South Elmham.
Firefighters were alerted to the blaze at about 9.40pm.
A spokesman for Suffolk Fire and Rescue said that by 10.30pm, the roof was entirely caught up in the fire as crews worked to try to remove the thatch.
Shortly after 11pm a further three crews were sent, with engineers from UK Power Network arriving to isolate power to the house.
By 1.30am half of the thatch had been removed from the premises.
The fire was extinguished shortly after 2am, and by 3am, the thatch from the front of the house had been removed.
The fire crews sent to tackle the blaze included one from Harleston.
