VILLAGE SIGN - DEBENHAM

Debenham High School has been evacuated this afternoon after a fire broke out in a toilet cubicle at the school.

The school was closed in the afternoon as a precaution, although it will be open as normal tomorrow. No-one was injured.

The school is now working with the fire service as an investigation begins to determine the cause of the fire.

Fire crews from Debenham and Eye attended the blaze just before 12.30pm today, to find a fire inside a cubicle in the boys toilet and heavy smoke in the corridor. The cubicle was burnt, while the toilet roll holder was destroyed.

Julia Upton, headteacher at Debenham High School, said the damage was “very limited.”

“We had a small fire at the school today. We are working with the fire service to determine what happened,” she said.

“We will be open for business as usual tomorrow. On the advice of the fire service we did not allow students back into the school in the afternoon.”
