Runner spurred on to raise funds for Alzheimer’s charity
A Kenninghall man plans to run five half marathons in six weeks to raise funds for Alzheimer’s Research UK.
Guy Haines’ first challenge starts today with the Cambridge Boundary Run and he will be cheered on by his wife Allison, daughters Olivia, 14, and Georgia, 13, and son Ieuan, 11.
Mr Haines is a senior tax manager for a Cambridge company where staff hope to raise £10,000 during 2013 for research into Alzheimer’s.
Mr Haines, 46, said: “I haven’t done any serious running for years and needed something to spur me on - raising money for Alzheimer’s Research UK is the perfect motivation.” He said finding out about the charity had opened his eyes to the lack of funding for research into dementia which could be devastating for individuals and their families.
Once Mr Haines has completed the Cambridge run, he’ll tackle half marathons in Milton Keynes, Colchester and Stowmarket, finishing at Waltham Forest on April 7.
“I’m really looking forward to this challenge and have been training hard since Christmas, even in the snow and ice.” His family will be at all five races to cheer him on. Mr Haines can be supported with donations online at http://bit.ly/XHl8GC or by calling 01223 843899.
