Roydon teaching assistant charged with child abduction and grooming
A former Roydon teaching assistant has been charged with child abduction and grooming offences.
Twenty-year-old Reuben Poll, of Jewson Road, Norwich, has been charged with two counts of child abduction in relation to an incident which happened on January 12.
He is also accused of grooming a boy under the age of 16 between December 1, 2012, and January 11, 2013.
A spokesman from Norfolk Police said the charges did not relate to any children outside of the Norwich area.
In a letter sent home from the school to parents, seen by the Diss Express, headteacher Sarah Bradford said Mr Poll was employed as a teaching assistant at Roydon Primary School from September to December last year.
She said the school had been working with Norfolk County Council who are providing guidance.
In the letter, Mrs Bradford said: “Safeguarding and disclosure issues are discussed with children as part of their education. However, we will not be discussing this particular matter with our pupils as we believe that it is not appropriate or relevant to them since Mr Poll has left the school.
“Should a child wish to talk to us about this matter, we will naturally listen and offer them age-appropriate support and advice. “
Parents who have individual concerns were also invited to contact Mrs Bradford.
It is understood a second letter has now been sent home to parents.
Mr Poll appeared at Norwich Magistrates Court on January 14. He was remanded in custody and appeared before magistrates again on January 17. A spokesman from Norfolk Police said they had not yet been supplied with a new court date.
