Residents urged to sign up for the Norfolk Big Energy Switch

More than 800,000 households in Norfolk are being urged to sign up for the Norfolk Big Energy Switch.

Five local authorities across the county have come together to establish a dedicated collective energy switching programme to get people to join together in a bulk-buying group to get cheaper gas and electricity tariffs.

Residents can sign up by visiting www.bigswitchandsave.co.uk from the comfort of their own home.

If you don’t have access to the Internet you can sign up by calling your local council or pop into one of the council’s customer service centres where staff will be able to help you.

You will need a recent energy bill, an annual statement is best. Anyone can sign up to save but, there’s no obligation to go ahead.

Once the auction is completed everybody will be informed of how much they could save. If it turns out you are one of the very few who are already on a lower tariff you simply don’t swap.

It is estimated that 61,000 homes across Norfolk are in fuel poverty, which means more than 10 per cent of income is spent on electricity and gas.

William Nunn, Leader of Breckland Council said: “We need to put pressure on energy suppliers who continue to impose major price rises on households. I would really encourage everyone to sign up to find out if they could get a better deal. We have officers holding advice and guidance roadshows around the district so please pop along if you would like to chat and further information.”
