I was glad to see your front page story about Saffron Housing’s policy of removing woodburners and open fires and block up fireplaces (Home is where the hearth is, August 8).
This policy needs overturning. I do not believe that Saffron have done a proper risk assesment nor have they thought through how this will affect their tenants, many of whom are on low wages, pensions or benefits.
I have been forced to dismantle my woodburner after Saffron wrote to me saying they were going to take me to Court, and that I would have to pay costs in the region of £1,000.
I am ill and in receipt of benefits. I am also at home all day. I am dreading the winter.
The oil central heating that Saffron gave me six years ago is now so expensive that I will only be able to run it for a few hours a day. Hopefully, your article will make them think again.
