Presenter dismissed

A presenter and a producer from Long Stratton-based SNYA Radio have been dismissed for on-air comments about a band.

Will Litchfield and Fraser Bridge lost their show on the youth radio station after complaining about a performance by Old Buckenham-based The Easy Brothers.

The decision was made by young people on the station’s management committee, and an appeal had been offered before Mr Litchfield threatened to delete the station’s website unless he had a final show.

The station was set up by Josh Worley, 14, and is voluntarily supported by Stephen Thomas from Norfolk County Council.

Mr Thomas said the decision was made after complaints made during the show.

In a statement to members he said SNYA staff will be able to read copies of correspondence and listen to audio content of the show and would be making it available to members.

He said it would demonstrate how and why SNYA’s management committee made its decision.

Mr Litchfield, said he previously secured a large amount of funding for the station through the East of England Regional Assembly, said: “I feel I’ve been unfairly treated. Someone put a comment on our webcam chat and it was taken as a complaint.

“I’ve been at the station since the start and I’ve put in a lot of hard work. I’ve raised £25,000 for it.

“I just want my last show so I can say goodbye to all my listeners. I’m tired of it all now and don’t think I’d even want to go back if I could.”

Mr Thomas said the station would carry on activities, including a float at the Norwich Lord Mayor’s Parade on July 5.
