Official launch of new flood suits for Suffolk firefighters
The official launch of Suffolk Fire and Rescue Service’s (SFRS) new flood suits and low build appliances takes place this Friday.
As part of the SFRS Flood Enhancement programme, Friday will see the introduction of flood suits for all frontline firefighters.
The flood suit is a two-piece garment which, when worn with additional protective clothing, will allow the wearer to perform water and bank-based rescues.
The new suits will direct benefit fully-trained water rescue technicians based at Lowestoft, Bury St Edmunds and Ipswich.
In addition to this, two new low-build appliances are being launched to help firefighters navigate their way around Needham Market and Stowmarket, which are home to low bridges.
The new vehicles are provided by Emergency One Ltd along with Volvo trucks, and have been extensively modified.
For instance, the roof line has been lowered and the suspension has been replaced by a fully air-operated system.
The launch event starts at 10am at Needham Market fire station.
