John Dain, beloved husband of Marianne and father of Caroline and Stephen, formerly of Bressingham, died peacefully aged 87 on February 1 after a long illness.

He moved to Diss in 1962 and then to Bressingham in 1977, and was finance director of Alma Components (now Hamlin).

Qualified as a chartered management accountant, he became a Fellow of the Institute (FCMA), and ultimately president and chairman of the East Anglian Branch.

In 1981, he became deputy finance director of HMSO in Norwich, and then in London before retiring in 1991.

He was an active member of the community in and around Diss for many years, joining of Round Table, then Rotary Clubs when, as chairman, he helped to set up the Citizen’s Advice Bureau and the Physiotherapy Association.

He formed the Diss 41 Club and then Diss and District Probus Club and was a founder member and treasurer of the Friends of Diss Health Centre.

For ten years, he was also a member of the Norwich Area Community Health Council.

He was always a keen supporter of the Scouts and Guides and was Chairman of 1st Diss Brownie and Guide Group for several years, and then Chairman of South Norfolk District Scout Association.

He was treasurer of Montgomerie Lodge for ten years, and trustee and treasurer of the Bressingham Steam Museum for 40 years.

He was also involved in 
local politics, from being vice president of South Norfolk Conservative Association, 
to twice being voted Chairman of Bressingham Parish Council.

John and Marianne moved to Barnet, North London in 2012 to be near their daughter. John will be sadly missed.

There will be a private family cremation.

A Service of Thanksgiving will be held at 12.30pm on Friday, March 7 at St Peter’s Church, Arkley, Barnet, Herts. All are welcome. Donations to North London Hospice, 47 Woodside Avenue, London N12 8TT.
