North Suffolk turbines rejected due to ‘national security’ risk
A man’s bid to site two wind turbines in a north Suffolk village has been rejected, with fears over national security raised.
Mr Erith’s bid to site the 15-metre hub height turbines on land at Spears Hill Farm in Wortham was refused planning permission by Mid Suffolk District Council’s planning committee last week.
A statement from the committee accompanying the decision, said: “The siting, height and movement of the proposed turbines would interfere with the operation of radar equipment at RAF Honington causing unacceptable interference with operations at Wattisham Airfield such that the development would have an unacceptable detrimental impact on the ongoing safe operation of aviation activities within the locality and, as a result, national security.”
It added: “The proposed turbines would be in a location close to potential bat roosts, foraging and commuting routes, in an area where bats are known to exist.”
