Norfolk man gets inked for charity

A former Diss resident will be returning to the town today to get a tattoo on his chest, all in the name of charity.

Sixty-six-year-old Lawrence Hain has pledged to get a tattoo of the East Anglian Air Ambulance helicopter to raise vital funds for the charity, which needs to raise £6 million a year to continue operating.

Mr Hain, who lived in Diss from the age of eight before moving to Walcott in North Norfolk three years ago, said he makes weekly donations to the charity and saw first hand the work they do when they were called out to care for his friend.

He said: “You never know when you are going to need them yourself and they are not Government funded.”

Mr Hain will have his tattoo done a Pigmental Tattoos in Chapel Street at 10.30am today. He decided to have it done in Diss so his family, who still live in the area, could support him.

The tattoo will take about three hours to complete, and will be of Anglia One, the helicopter which is based at Norwich airport.

He added: “I think it is going to be a bit painful but it’s something I can put up with for the cause.”

Mr Hain will be paying for the tattoo himself so 100 per cent of the money he raises can go to the charity. So far he has raised £60 through his online fundraising page, but hopes donations will come flooding in once his tattoo is complete.

The East Anglian Air Ambulance is a 365-day helicopter emergency medical service covering Norfolk, Suffolk, Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire.
