Members of Norfolk County Council yesterday agreed to freeze council tax and, as a response to the Putting People First consultation and to meet new priorities, to put £7.6 million back into the budget.

After a debate lasting more than five and a half hours, the council agreed by 41 votes to 39, with one abstention, to set a net revenue budget of £308m for 2014-15. They authorised implementing savings outlined in the Putting People First consultation for 2015-16 and 2016-17, with further savings of £3.8m in 2015-16 and £18.2m in 2016-17 needing to be found to balance the books as government funding continues to fall and demand for services rises.
