An author of boxing books has continued his recent success by having a question list he compiled featured on national television on Saturday.
Ralph Oates, of North Lopham, compiled a list of British boxing world champions since 1963, which was used for the National Lottery’s Who Dares Wins show.
It was the second time that one of Mr Oates’ list had been used on the show, hosted by Nick Knowles - the first, broadcast in March 2012, asked challengers to name boxers since John L Sullivan who have held a major version of the world championship.
“It makes me feel proud to have my questions used on national television,” he said.
“In a way having questions on boxing put to contestants on such a major quiz watched by millions makes me feel that I am helping to keep the spotlight on the sport.”
Mr Oates, who has been writing books on boxing for more than 25 years and is a boxing consultant for the Guinness Book of World Records, released his latest work, ‘The World Champions of Boxing Quiz Book’ in December.
“It is early days yet since the book as been on the market for just four weeks but the early signs are encouraging and at this time, the publisher Candy Jar Books are happy with the sales,” he added.
“People within boxing have praised the book highly, such as Jim Watt, Billy Walker, Colin Lynes, Colin McMillan. plus TV Eurosport boxing commentator Steve Holdsworth is going to talk about the book on his TV show within the next three weeks.”
