A new project in Diss, to be run in conjunction with Macmillan Cancer Support and The Art of Life support group, is urgently looking for volunteers from the local area to support people affected by cancer.
Diss-cover Buddies, a Macmillan volunteer-led service, is a new scheme that will provide practical and emotional support for local people affected by cancer.
Jackie Kennedy who lives in Bressingham, already attends The Art of Life support group sessions and will be involved in the new scheme. She said: “The Art of Life support group really is a sanctuary away from clinicians, hospitals and everything that goes with a cancer diagnosis. The group has been a great support to me during my treatment for ovarian cancer and I’m delighted to be involved in the setting up of the new buddying service .I know how scary it can be to receive a cancer diagnosis so I’d really like to be there for others going through the same thing.”
An open evening about the buddying scheme was due to be held last night.
