Mid Suffolk has been ranked 18th in the top 50 rural areas to live, according to a Halifax Rural Areas Quality of Life survey.
The district was also ranked highest in the county.
Councillor Derrick Haley, leader of Mid Suffolk District Council, said: “All of the councillors and staff at Mid Suffolk are absolutely thrilled to be mentioned in the top 50 but to come 18th is the icing on the cake.
“Last year we were placed at 34 so the jump this year has been remarkable. Of course, the survey is just proof that what all of our residents already know - Mid Suffolk is a great place to live and work.
“I personally think the Mid Suffolk area has a lot to offer everyone - picturesque villages, excellent homes and schools as well as decent employment opportunities. Who wouldn’t want to live here?”
The survey takes a number of factors into account, including residents’ health and life expectancy, crime rate, weather, school results, broadband access, and personal wellbeing.
