A man tried to grab a charity bucket from a Diss Rotary Club collector in Diss town centre this morning.

It happened at about 11.30am in Mere Street, near the closed Co-op supermarket.

The man initially pestered and remonstrated with the collector, a woman, before making a grab for her collection bucket.

A struggle for the bucket took place, but the man, thought to be in his mid-30s according to an eye-witness, was unsuccessful and he made off.

The victim was left shaken, but unharmed.

A spokesman for Diss and District Rotary Club said: “What is it coming to when people are unable to safely collect in the streets?”

The Rotary Club was collecting for ShelterBox, project partner of Rotary International.

ShelterBox is an organisation that provides emergency shelter in areas where there is a disaster anywhere in the world.

Anyone who may have witnessed this incident can contact Norfolk Police on 101.
