After reading the book Archie the Guide Dog Puppy, eight-year-old Lexie Hayes made it her own personal mission to collect stamps to raise money for the Royal National Institute of Blind People (RNIB).
Lexie, a pupil at Gislingham Primary School, asked if her school and classmates would help her in her mission.
She has astigmatism, so the cause is very close to her, which only fuels her motivation all the more.
Lexie then placed a post box in the school office where stamps have been arriving in their hundreds ever since. She has collected several hundred over the space of just a few months.
Mum, Elaine Hayes, said that after leaving the house they will return to piles of envelopes brimming with collected stamps sitting in their hallway.
“We didn’t even realise how well it would take off,” said Mrs Hayes. “Stamps have just been pouring through our door.”
If you have any stamps left on old envelopes please help Lexie in her campaign and post them to RNIB, PO Box 6198, Leighton Buzzard, Bedfordshire, LU7 9XT.
All stamps collected will go towards raising funds to offer information, support and advice to anyone with a sight problem.
