I would like to show my admiration and respect for some wonderfully caring people who through the love of two children who were ill and for the care they received, wanted to go beyond the call of duty and give something back.

I am referring to Sara and Judith’s remarkable 100 mile walk to raise money for Leukaemia & Lymphoma Research after Sara’s son Will Smith was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukaemia, and secondly, for ten “middle aged and mildly unfit men” (their words), Robert, Doug, Nigel, Nick, Nicholas, Tim, Craig, Jason, James and Neil.

They completed an incredible 240 mile cycle ride over three days for The Sick Children’s Trust who accommodated young Ava Wattam’s parents, Claire and Robert, in a room in Acorn House at Addenbrookes hospital whilst Ava was receiving treatment after loosing a kidney to Wilms cancer.

Making a donation of money is the easy part but to commit time and energy to months of training to something which is out of their comfort zone shows just how much they really care, so I hope they all feel very proud of them selves - you all deserve a medal!

Very well done - you are true heroes!
