More than one thousand people attended a ‘successful’ school gala in Harleston at the weekend which has helped pay for a playground ‘shelter’.
The Harleston Primary School Summer Gala 2014, held on Saturday, hosted a variety of events, including a BBQ, beer tent, archery and a penalty shoot-out.
Each class provided a different stall, while a main arena saw a gymnastic group open the gala, and demonstrations from other groups including brownies and a ‘dancercise’ club.
Around £3,250 was raised from the gala, which contributes to a £12,000 project to provide a large shelter over the school’s nursery playground, allowing year-round access for children, which was built in February.
Headteacher Roger Walsh said: “It is a very big community event. It is a critical thing in the government’s agenda that children get access to learning inside and outside.”
