Last Thursday Harleston saw the launch of ‘We Will Remember’, a book charting the history of Harleston from 1914-1946. The book, written by Ruth Walton, was released to coincide with the 100 year anniversary of the First World War and examines the stories of 97 men from the town who lost their lives fighting in both World Wars.

£580 was raised on the night and all the proceeds will go to the Norfolk based charity ‘Walking with the wounded’. Over 70 people attended the evening launch, which offered the guests books signed by Ruth as well as a talk from Sgt. Duncan Slater about the charity and his trek to the South Pole with other injured service personnel. The audience also heard about the background behind the book and the process that Ruth went through to produce it.

Copies of the book can be bought for £5 from the Harleston council offices, library, museum and church.
