A group of pupils from Harleston Primary School experienced their town’s continuing housing expansion first hand when they visited a major Persimmon Homes development at the end of their academic year last month.

Twelve youngsters from Year Two, along with their class teacher Miss Kate Sheperd, received an extensive tour of a working site and a show home at The Poppies, a house and bungalow development currently under construction in Mendham Lane, from site manager Stacy Brett.

Miss Sheperd said: “The staff at The Poppies were very welcoming. This development is just round the corner from the school so it was a fantastic opportunity for the children to experience first-hand a construction site close-up and safely.

“As a school we are very keen to build good links with the local community and experiences like this enable us to enhance the children’s learning and practical experiences.”

Alison Page, head of Sales and Marketing for Persimmon Homes Anglia, said: “It was a pleasure to have the children visit us on our development. They were a credit to the school, and I think we spotted a few budding site managers among them!”
