Harleston charity launches training programme for jobseekers

Harleston Information Plus (HIP) is offering a training programme to help local jobseekers get into work.

Using a Norfolk based training provider, the club will be holding City and Guilds training in Excel and Sage, which will be free to anyone aged 19 or over who is in receipt of benefits.

The training will cost £65 to anyone not on benefits.

Community support manager Julie Helsby, said: “Through our jobs clubs we have discovered that local people want the opportunity to train in the town. Currently most of what is on offer is available only in Norwich.”

Since its launch in June 2009, the HIP jobs club has helped almost 400 people, and in September last year a second weekly club was launched to help people between the ages of 16 and 24.

Jobs club coordinator Lucy Marjoram, said: “Our jobs clubs are friendly, busy places, offering support to write CVs, find and apply for jobs, get advice on attending interviews or just chat over coffee. We already offer basic IT training but wanted to do more. Over the next few months we hope to expand the course range offered to include Food Hygiene, Hospitality and Customer Service.”

The jobs club is held at 8 Exchange Street, Harleston, on Wednesdays from 10am to 2pm,followed by the 16 to 24s club on Thursdays between noon and 2pm.
