Group takes the plunge in memory of James Grigg
THE family and friends of a Royal Anglian Regiment soldier from Stradbroke, who died in Afghanistan during an operation behind enemy lines, are planning a sky dive in his memory.
The parachute jump from Beccles airfield today, weather permitting, will raise funds for Help the Heroes charity and the youth cricket trust set up in Private James Grigg’s name.
Pte Grigg, 21, was a keen member of Stradbroke Cricket Club and the trust will aim to bring the sport to young people, providing equipment and coaching.
His beloved club was renamed Stradbroke Vikings in his honour.
Pte Grigg died alongside Lance Corporal Scott Hardy from the same regiment on March 16, 2010, in an incident involving improvised explosive devices in Helmand Province.
His father, Michael Grigg said the sky dive would mark the first anniversary of his son’s death.
Mr Grigg will be taking part with a group including his daughter, Victoria, and Mark Allen, of Thetford, a good friend and comrade of his son who was in the same platoon and lost both his legs in the Afghanistan conflict.

Mr Grigg is also planning another fund-raising event in June when he will carry a stretcher up to the top of Snowdon, Wales.
