Fun sporting activity sessions held during the summer with the aim of providing a relaxed environment for young people to engage with police officers has been deemed a success.

The events, hosted in Eye and organised by Police Community Support Officers Abigail Durrant, Dave Faulkner and Ben Ellis, each ran for four hours.

PCSO Durrant from Mid Suffolk North SNT said: “The feedback we have received from the parents and young people that attended was very positive. Not only did the young people enjoy the days, they now have a better understanding about the Police Community Support Officer role and will be able to approach us, on a first name basis, with confidence should they need support or advice.”

The events were made possible by donations from The Children and Young People’s Integrated Service, who funded the majority of the sports equipment and the polo shirts, Graham West, who provided free use of the playing fields at the community centre, Stowmarket Rugby Club, who provided tackle bags and tag belts for the events, and East of England Co-op, Central England Co-op and McColls, who kindly donated squash for everyone each day.
