Four friends are gearing up to cycle 800 miles from John O’ Groats to Harleston in aid of three charities close to their hearts.

Paul Seaman, Nathan Daniels, Julian Hines, all of Harleston and Stephen Harrison of Yaxley, will be cycling the long road home down the east coast off the country from April 18 to 27.

They are raising money for East Anglia’s Children’s Hopsices, Cancer Research UK and Wolverstone Wish, a charity which supports the chemotherapy clinics in the Woolverstone Wing of Ipswich Hospital.

Mr Seaman, said: “After losing my father-in-law to cancer last April I really wanted to put something back into the unit where he had his treatment and to Cancer Research UK. I started to speak to a friend about it and he said he would love to do it as well and before long two more of my friends asked, which is great because all of these charities mean a great deal to all of us.”

The men have been sponsored by five local businesses, Cornerstone, Eclipse Cleaning and Maintenance, Daniels and Vincent, Brooks and Wood and Crown Chicken, who have donated about £4,000 to help pay for their flights up to Scotland and accommodation.

Mr Seaman added: “We’ve never done anything like this before but we’re all really looking forward to it.”

They hope to raise £8,000, and will be collecting donations at the arc shopping centre in Bury St Edmunds on March 23 and outside Budgens in Harleston on March 30 where they will be pedaling on a exercise bike. Visit www.justgiving.com/teams/longroadhome to donate.
