An intrepid troop of Explorers have dubbed the start of its international programme a huge success after returning from an adventurous trip to Iceland towards the end of May.
Twenty-one members of 1st Fressingfield Scout Group, with a large portion comprised of children aged between 14 and 18 from the Explorer Scout Unit, embarked on the ‘Ice and Fire Expedition’, organised by group leader Andrew Aalders-Dunthorne, in which they spent an activity-filled week on the island.
The team took part in various challenges, such as hikes up the local mountain ranges and volcanoes, climbing on the glaciers, riding horses across lava fields and running a water assault course.
They also enjoyed whale watching, fishing, go-karting and a special cultural and shopping day in Reykjavík, the country’s capital city.
The trip is part of Fressingfield Scout Group’s growing international scheme, which plans to organiser more ventures abroad in the future.
