The bid to ensure that residents of Eye and villages near to Eye Airfield have a say in the site’s development continues.
After the well-attended success of July’s ‘town future’ meeting at Eye Town Hall, a follow-up public forum will be staged later this month.
Rather than just Eye specifically, the aim is to debate the airfield, which is earmarked for major construction projects, and to produce an appendix to the Eye parish plan, compiled in 2009.
Merlin Carr, behind the campaign, said: “We will look to do an update for the parish plan, to take into account proposals since then, but there is the possibility of compiling a Neighbourhood Plan, if there is a willingness to do that. That would give the people of Eye a greater say about what is happening around them.”
Mid Suffolk District Council’s Airfield Development Framework includes new housing and business zones. A power plant is also proposed.
Mr Carr, said: “The changes on the airfield could be very great, and would impact on the lives of those living in and around Eye. We must assess how the effects of a major development can be mitigated, and how we get the most out of any airfield development, such as having the necessary infrastructure in place; schools, doctors, and so on.”
Residents of villages near to the airfield are also welcome to attend the public forum from 7.30pm on September 26 at Eye Town Hall.
