The town council agreed, by a majority vote to authorise a further £2,000 towards any extra decorating work, if needed, to repair the walls of the town hall after the installation of the new gas heating system.

County councillor Guy McGregor has contributed £2,000 from his locality budget towards the heating of the council chamber.

The council also agreed to obtain quotes for rectifying defective guttering on the hall.

After consideration of tenders submitted for the maintenance of the cemetery and churchyard, the council agreed to accept the recommendation of the environment committee to allow the present contractor Robert Fiebelkorn to continue.

A quotation for £350 to remove asbestos from the allotments by Mr Leech was approved, the work to be carried out as soon as possible.

The late night shopping event was pronounced a great success and a booking has already been made for the first Friday in December, 2014, for a similar event. Councillor Alan Cooper suggested a competition for the best decorated house in Eye should be included as well as the shop window contest.

The next council meeting will be held on Wednesday, January 15 at Paddock House.
