A care home in Eye hopes that a pair of open days it is hosting throughout today and this Sunday will help to eradicate the negative stigma that can surround care facilities.
Paddock House, in Wellington Road, has invited local people to take an open house-style tour of its premises to gain a better sense of the lives of its residents and the people who care for them.
The home, which provides specialist care for older individuals with Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia, is one of thousands of facilities across the UK taking part in the National Care Home Open Day scheme that aims to change people’s perceptions of the homes.
Kym Denny, home manager at Paddock House, said: “Some people do still have misconceptions about care homes, and it is therefore necessary to dispel any myths and to demystify everyday life in a care home.
“We have set out to create a fun and entertaining event for the local community, as well as our residents and their families, and we hope members of the public will join us.”
People visiting today will be provided with a fish and chip lunch and afternoon cream tea, while Sunday’s open day will include a special tea dance.
