Energy cash boost for Suffolk residents

Local authorities in Suffolk who joined together to bid for a share of £46million from central Government have been rewarded with £263,000 funding to be used across two projects that will help reduce fuel poverty, improve energy efficiency, and cut energy bills in the county.

Organisations from across the country were invited to bid for money, and the Department of Energy and Climate Change (DECC) received 324 responses in all.

Suffolk was successful in gaining just over a quarter of a million pounds, to be split between two projects.

The first project was awarded £165,000 to tackle fuel poverty, and will assist more than a thousand of Suffolk’s vulnerable households to keep warm, cut energy bills and improve insulation.

This money will complement the existing Warmer Homes, Healthy People scheme currently available for eligible households in Suffolk.

Secondly, £98,000 has also been awarded for Suffolk Green Deal Pioneer Places; a project focusing on improving the energy efficiency of homes and businesses across 14 areas in the county. The money will be used specifically for Green Deal household energy-efficiency assessments to see where energy savings can be made in the home, whole house retrofits to demonstrate the benefits of energy efficiency, and local events and other activities to raise awareness of the Green Deal, the Government’s new plan to help households in Britain improve their home and save on energy bills.
