The dreams of nine young dancers in the Diss Express area are set to come true next month by appearing in the English Youth Ballet’s (EYB) production of Swan Lake.

Alice Coulson and Kezia Coulson of Thorndon, Hoxne’s Lucy Borrill, Shannon Spurdens of South Lopham, Amy Canning, Eye, Long Stratton’s Isaac Looker, Katie Edwards from Botesdale and Charlotte Watson and Joshua Watson, Horham, were chosen from a 200-strong audition held in November.

They will now be performing in an adaptation of Swan Lake at the Theatre Royal, Norwich, in three performances on March 7 and 8.

The young dancers in the cast will dance alongside EYB’s international principal artists in a professional production. They have been practising in a ten-day intensive rehearsal at Sprowston Community High School.

New Eccles Hall School pupil Shannon Spurdens, 14, said: “I am looking forward to working with the principal dancers in English Youth Ballet.

“I danced in Sleeping Beauty with EYB 4 years ago. I am quite shy but whenever I dance I kind of let myself out. I would really like to work doing something in dance.

“Ballet would be my first choice but I don’t really mind. I’ve seen Swan Lake in London – it is my favourite ballet.”

British principal ballerina, Julianne Rice Oxley, added: “There is such a wonderful team spirit in the young company.

“The young dancers we are working with in Norfolk have great energy and attack. Working in a professional environment gives the students a unique insight into life in a ballet company.”
